Long-Time Bachelor George Clooney Weds Today

Since his first and only marriage to actress Talia Balsam ended in divorce in 1993, Clooney swore off matrimony. In fact, around the time of his divorce, he went as far as to make a $100,000 bet with actress Michelle Pfeiffer that he would never again exchange I do’s again.

Over the years, Clooney has been connected to a bevy of actresses and beautiful women to include Nicole Kidman, Kimberly Russell, Krista Allen, Renee Zellweger, Sarah Larson, Elisabetta Canalis, and Stacy Kiebler, among many others. However, it was 36-year-old Amal Alamuddin who finally stole his heart for keeps.

The couple is currently staying at the lavish Hotel Cipriani in Venice for their romantic wedding getaway. Yesterday while aboard a beautiful gondola, Clooney raised a glass to a number of stars onboard to include Matt Damon and Rande Gerber. At 53, Clooney was all smiles and as his bride-to-be made her way down stairs in a stunning red dress to join him on the gondola with family and friends.

Considered “Hollywood’s most eligible leading man”, Clooney will make it official with Amal Alamuddin in today’s wedding. Alamuddin is a human rights lawyer of British and Lebanese descent who according to his list of “must-haves”, obviously possesses everything that he wants in a woman.

Hotel Cipriani is set on a private island in a Venice lagoon and while not confirmed, many insiders believe it is the same hotel where a lot of the wedding guests are staying. Last night, Clooney escorted his soon-to-be bride to an all-women dinner and this morning, was spotted eating with Cindy Crawford and Rande Gerber.

Clooney and Alamuddin announced their engagement five months ago, which broke the hearts of many vying for his attention. However, it was not just her incredible beauty that captured his heart but also her high level of intelligence and passion for her work pertaining to human rights.

According to reports, there were a number of major celebrities in attendance to include Matt Damon and his wife Lucinda, Cindy Crawford and her husband Rande Gerber, Bon Jovi, Ellen Barkin, and while they were not spotted, it was said that Angie Jolie and Brad Pitt were also planning to attend. Other notable guests include Anna Wintour, editor of Vogue magazine, Byzantine, and a renowned architect.

Although a lot of the activities will take place at the Hotel Cipriani, today’s wedding between George Clooney and Amal Alamuddin will be at the seven-star Hotel Aman. Formerly, the hotel was a grand Renaissance palace and to ensure everyone’s comfort, 24 rooms were booked for this weekend months in advance.

As stated by Venice city officials, for two hours on Monday, a 50-yard length of pedestrian walkway along the Grand Canal will be closed, which is the location of the Cavalli Palace. People close to the couple believe a formal ceremony will take place first, followed by a civil wedding on Monday.
