SonyEcoOn the back of Sony’s inclusion in the Environmental Graffiti list of the top five greenest companies of 2009 for their continued commitment to environmental initiatives, the Japanese giant has completely restructured the eco section of their website to further promote how they are striving to reduce their environmental impact on the planet.

The newly revamped eco section is structured around 3Ps – product, process and planet and describes how eco friendly thinking influences every part of the business.

As with the old eco section, information is provided on how Sony are steadily incorporating eco thinking into the design of their products and constantly improving their energy efficiency and use of recycled materials.

In terms of what’s new, the eco site now provides visitors with some important tips on how they can save energy and money in a variety of environments. These energy saving tips include general advice as well as how new Sony products are utilising technology in order to save energy.

A pertinent example is the tip highlighting how by simply turning down the brightness on your TV, enough energy can be saved to run 60 loads of laundry. This tip is accompanied with information on how some BRAVIA TVs and VAIO notebooks have an ambient light sensor that adjusts the brightness of the device to match its environment.

One of the most important sections of the new Sony eco site has to be the Helping the Planet pages. These pages detail some of the eco initiatives Sony are involved in and how through the use of technology it is possible to find solutions to climate change issues. It is these initiatives that were praised when Environmental Graffiti compiled their list of the greenest companies of 2009.

The re-launch of the eco website is just one of the increasing number of actions by Sony that show their increased commitment to eco friendly principles and how they are striving to reduce their impact upon the planet.
